My Dad works at the Kalama Export Company located in (where else?) Kalama Washington. On Monday he was driving trains around the track that surrounds the company and getting them all ready for the ship where the grain ends up being transferred too and then shipped out overseas. Normally my Dad’s job is to operate the conveyor belts that move the grain from the silos to the ship, but on this day he was riding the train around, so he invited us down to take a ride with him. The boss was gone for the days so conditions were perfect!
Casey has loved Thomas the Train since he was a baby (in fact his whole room is decorated in it!) so this was an extra special treat for him. He was a bit intimidated at first – I don’t think he expected it to be quite as loud as it was.
Olivia LOVED blowing the whistle and burst out laughing every time it went off!

Miss Olivia dumped baby oil in her hair this morning and the bath couldn’t get it all out…I love how she looks like she’s been working all day and is covered grease.

Casey’s weird smile in this one has been cracking me up all day!

The Kalama Export Co. – the little box up on top of the catwalks and conveyor belts is where my Dad normally works. He took me up there when I was a little kid…I got to go right up next to an osprey nest and take photos of the babies, one of my all time fave childhood memories (and I wish I knew where those photos are) unfortunately OSHA doesn’t let kids on grain elevators anymore….something about safety management or something like that.
