Vintage spring Mini-sessions | Family and Children’s photographer Longview Wa

I had the pleasure of photographing several families during my last mini-session special. This was my first “in-studio” mini-special in a long time and I love how these all turned out! I had a blast making the set for this and can’t wait to try my hand at making more set’s in the future. On a side note – I had two families with 5 kiddos each that morning and I couldn’t believe how amazing they all behaved. Not that I was expecting them to be bad, but large families with young children are almost always a challenge – getting everyone to smile and look at the same time usually involves a significant of amount of jokes and acrobatics on the photographers part. Not today though, these guys were awesome! Thank you guys for your business!

At the end of 2010 I temporarily closed my studio location and went to being strictly an on-location photographer, I was due to have a baby in a few months and needed the ability to be home with him and actually have a “maternity leave” of sorts. With the large retail space (read:overhead!) I had, this wasn’t going to be an option for me, so I chose baby over super-awesome studio. Best choice I ever made because since then my friend Kindra offered to lease me a smaller space in the back of her boutique. I had actually been looking for a smaller space, what I had was over 1000 sq. feet and I only needed maybe half that. This has a been a perfect compromise for me, and a great business choice as well. Kindra’s boutique is absolutely GORGEOUS inside, she displays my work in her space (foot traffic? yes please!) and anytime my clients or myself need some sort of clothing/prop we have an entire store to shop in! If you haven’t heard of Bibs 2 Bloomers here is a Daily News article, and another article by my favorite local publication the Valley Bugler with more information. We are located at 107 A Church St in Kelso, which is in between the two bridges on the Kelso side and just down the hill from Sunnicuts. He’s 4 months old. He laughs and babbles like crazy. He just started eating solids. He’s 17 lbs. He started saying “mama” the other day, and he hasn’t quite saying it since. He’s learned how to throw a fit when he doesn’t get what he wants. But that’s not often because we spoil him. Bad. He melts my heart when he snuggle into my arm every night as I rock him to sleep. My oldest said to me the other morning “I’m so glad we have Tristen, he makes it so fun here, he laughs and plays and pulls my hair and I just love him.” sigh…….my boys know to how to melt this mama’s heart.

Ok…….so before ya’ll start critiquing my lighting and the fact that the second shot is out of focus….let me explain. I set little man down to meter in my camera and took a quick test shot. My lighting = bad. But then before I had time to fix anything out of nowhere he decided to roll over. For the first time. EVER. Yep…got it on camera in front of a drop and everything. Nevermind that it’s poorly lit, and out of focus. I got the FIRST ROLL OVER EVER!!!!!!!!!

And here he is in all his fat little cuteness. Don’t you just want to kiss those chubby little cheeks??????

She turned 5 last month. They say time flies once you have babies. I think that’s the understatement of the year. She is the bravest, strongest, toughest little 5-year-old I know. Honest and wise beyond her years. Funny and adorable as can be. She has been through a lot for a kid her age, and she has come out on the other side smiling and laughing and praising Jesus. (Yes….she loves Jesus with all her little heart!) She give’s me courage to keep on plugging away. I know someday that God has very special plan for her precious life. She wants to be a missionary when she grows up (or fashion model depending on the day!) and she loves to play orphanage and care for all the “babies” (her doll, chicky, teddy bear and our poor dog who get’s roped into all her make-believe -Huck). I love her to death, am so proud of her, and can’t believe that my middle-child is 5.

7 years…as I type that I realize that nearly 8 years ago (in a few more months) I took that little test that forever changed my life. Two little pink lines popped up and suddenly I went from life revolving around me (which of course I thought it did at that time in my life) to life revolving around him.

I pulled out some of my old videos the other day and watched his birth happen. That moment when arrived was the most beautiful moment in my life. Seriously. Not that my other kids birth’s were any less beautiful, but with anyone’s first-born that moment where you go from just being “you” to being “mom” is life-changing. (Major understatement right?) I could watch it over and over again. His little smashed blue head, him crying, me crying, my mom crying, me kissing his sweet little face for the first time and snuggling him close. So perfect.

Happy birthday little buddy! I love you! - Mom
