Monday Randomness | Cloth diapers?
What’s more random than talking about diapers on my photography blog? NOTHING.
If your anything like me just saying the words “cloth diaper” makes you cringe and think of smelly, nasty grossness. At least that was my reaction until I saw them being used, and then I was curious. The image I had in my head of cloth diapers were those little white things that they sometimes have in the baby section that are almost always used for burp cloths….you know, the gerber ones? I didn’t see how using one of those would keep stuff in and keep stuff dry. Well….the cloth diapers I saw were actually cute! Like, really CUTE! Way cuter than having little pampers with Elmo on them on my babies bum. I wanted to know more about this. One of my clients graciously helped me out and pointed me in the direction of some great websites all about cloth….and the obsession began. I researched the CRAP (pun intended!) out of cloth diapers for the next few weeks. The first thing I found out was it is SOOOO much cheaper to cloth diaper. Actually….that right there had me sold. Seeing that I could cloth diaper my child up to potty-training days for around $200 vs. the average cost of $2500 for disposables was huge. The other advantages after that were just fringe benefits to be completely honest. No rashes, no diaper pails, environmentally friendly and less smelly. So I started up my diaper stash and here are the results so far:
See? Cute right!?! What I ultimately decided was that the all-in-one style diapers were not for me, neither were the pocket diapers, all-in 2′s, or g-diapers (nothing wrong with any of them….just personal preference). I wanted economical and easy. So I went with pre-folds for the actual diaper (those white things to the left) and covers. If you know nothing about cloth diapering (I didn’t before researching like crazy) those white things are the actual “diaper” part you fold them around your baby and fasten them with a snappi or diaper pin (the snappis are those little pastel colored things in the front towards the left) and then put a waterproof cover over the diaper. I tried a bunch of different covers….almost all of mine are polyurethane-lined (or “PUL”) with cotton or some other fabric on the outside. What I love about them is that usually my little guy can wear a cover almost all day – I just change the diaper part and re-snap the cover back in place. The diapers go in that thing hanging over the back of my couch – it’s a “wet-bag” which is a lined fabric dirty-diaper holder-thingy. (Like how I described that?) It zips shut, no smells escape, and when it comes time to do laundry, it and diapers just get thrown in the wash together. I don’t even have to touch the diapers once he’s been changed. Not touching the diapers again is probably one of my favorite things ever! (The small blue one is for when your on the go….fit’s right in your normal diaper bag and holds 2 wet/dirty diapers).
And because I’m feeling generous, here are the links to where I purchased everything:
Prefolds (the “diapers”), the snappis, the wet-bags (small and large one) and most of the covers to the left came from here: Mom’s milk boutique. I love this place because of a. free shipping on orders over $30, and b. they have a “create-your-own” diaper package. I wanted to try a bunch of different covers as I had no clue what I would like and this place gave me that option. So I tried a couple blueberry covers (the mint, kiwi and blue and brown polka dot covers), a bummis cover, (the red one) and two thirsties covers (the stripes and light blue print towards the front). I love the blueberry one-size with snaps as they seem to fit my little guy the best, but that’s not to say I don’t like the other ones as they are great too!
The pirate ones (top right center) came from here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/teslamom. Pirate diapers? CUTE!
And the row of covers on the right came from here: http://cowpatties.storenvy.com/ Love this gal because she does custom covers and diapers. I got to pick my own fabric’s and style of diaper.
So that’s my Monday Randomness….I’m sure I’ll be posting photos soon of my little guy modeling his cute little diapers. :-)
Introducing “Lovestrike”
I had so much fun doing this promotional shoot for the up and coming local band “Lovestrike”. One of these photos will be gracing their posters for a concert they will be doing with WayFM. The concert will be held November 21st at the LCC student center starting at 5:00 and several other local bands will be there as well. Be sure to check out the WayFM site for more info. The band is in the process of building a music site and I will be sure to add links once it’s published.
In the meantime….meet “Lovestrike.”
Lizard s’mores help Chinooks stomp the Beavers!!!
Kalama took out Woodland in an exciting season opening game!
Quoted from The Daily News of Longview Wa.
Kalama senior Robby Sanders won’t need breakfast today. Maybe not even lunch or dinner.
Sanders took 20 big bites out of Woodland’s turf Friday night, and chewed up 115 yards and spit out a touchdown as the Chinooks overpowered the error-prone Beavers 40-21 in the nonleague season opener for both teams.
The Chinooks defeated their I-5 rivals for the second straight year, taking advantage of seven Beaver turnovers — including three interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.
But the big-play defense and Sanders’ insatiable appetite weren’t the only keys for Kalama.
“The real reason we won is that after our pasta dinner (Thursday night), we were sitting around a fire and we caught a lizard. We cooked the lizard in the fire and put it in a s’more, and Cody Mazza ate it,” Sanders said. “Then Nick Braman danced in the fire. That’s why we won.”
Whatever works.”
and that about sums it up!
